18th & 19th Century Naval 54mm

Both naval and merchant ships of the 18th century carried deck guns for protection from enemy war ships, privateers and pirates. Qualified seamen were enlisted while others were impressed into service from ships on the high seas or from press gangs ashore, a practice indulged in by all the naval powers.

Sailors were not issued uniforms during the 18th century but wore various pieces of civilian clothing. However, the officers and marine detachments stationed on ships did wear uniforms.

These figures complement our Treasure Island series.
